The two "wild-goose wing" halls that flanked Di'anmen, the north gate of the imperial city, were torn down in 1955 and rebuilt in 2014 on the Central Axis; since 2015 China Bookstore has run them as a two-storey shop for antiquarian books, literature and history, writing brushes and ink, with old-book restoration and lectures. Scholars and neighbours read here; most visitors drive past on the way to the Drum Tower.
