Berlin's oldest boulevard runs about 1.5 km from the Brandenburg Gate to the Schlossbrücke and the Humboldt Forum, past the Staatsoper, Humboldt University, Schinkel's Neue Wache and the Zeughaus; the first lime trees were planted here in 1647.

Good to know
- Walk it eastwards from the Brandenburg Gate so the Berlin Cathedral dome and the Humboldt Forum come into view at the end.
- The equestrian statue of Frederick the Great at the eastern end marks the king who turned the bridle path into a grand boulevard.
- The Zeughaus (German Historical Museum) on the boulevard is closed for renovation; its temporary exhibitions in the Pei Building behind it are open daily 10:00-18:00.
