Tax-free shopping

Visitors can get the VAT back here.

Only for people who live outside the EU; nationality does not matter. If you live in Türkiye you qualify. A Turkish citizen living in the EU does not.

VAT rate
23%
Minimum purchase
At least EUR 75 per purchase (export voucher value, VAT included).
Time limit
Take the goods out of the EU by the last day of the 3rd month after the month of purchase (bought in January: by 30 April).
Where to get it approved
Customs at your last EU departure point, e.g. Dublin Airport; ordinary vouchers can go in the Customs drop-box, items of EUR 2,000 or more must be shown to a Customs officer.

Step by step

  1. Ask before paying whether the shop runs the scheme itself or through a refund agent; not all shops do. Show proof that you live outside the EU.
  2. Get the export voucher or agent's form for each purchase and keep the goods in your luggage. Have it certified by Customs when you leave the EU.
  3. Revenue never pays tourists: the shop or agent refunds you (minus a fee), within 25 working days of receiving the papers.

Lost passport

If your passport is lost or stolen, here is what to do.

If you are a citizen of another country

Contact your own country’s embassy or consulate in this city. Your foreign ministry’s website lists its address.

If you are a Turkish citizen

  1. Book an appointment with the Turkish mission in this city at konsolosluk.gov.tr and go in person.
  2. If you need to get home, ask for a temporary passport. It is free, valid for one trip to Türkiye or to the country you live in, and usually valid for one month.
  3. Bring your Turkish ID card (if it is lost too, a photo document such as a driving licence), a biometric photo 50 x 60 mm taken in the last six months, and your ticket home.
  4. For a lost passport you do not need a police report.
  5. The temporary passport ends with that trip. Apply for a new passport in Türkiye or at the mission in the country you live in.
