A landmark of modernist housing in Lisbon, built in 1949-1954 for the Alvalade plan by Ruy Athouguia and Sebastião Formosinho Sanchez. The blocks stand on pillars, the estacas that gave the bairro its name, over a continuous garden by Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles: a break with the Estado Novo's traditional style that won a prize at the 1950 São Paulo Architecture Biennial.
