Open since 1829 and still run by the founder's family, it is the oldest working confeitaria in Lisbon. This is where the bolo-rei arrived in Portugal around 1870, adapted from the Parisian gâteau des rois, and Lisboetas still queue here for it before Christmas.

Good to know
- Try the enfarinhados (almond paste in icing sugar), the duchesses or the folhado russo.
- In December buy the bolo-rei here; the Christmas rabanadas and orange-scented sonhos are also house classics.
- The first-floor tea room is quieter than the busy counter downstairs.
