A 1.5-hectare garden opened in 1933 in an old basalt quarry inside Parque Eduardo VII, designed by Raul Carapinha: the unheated 'cold greenhouse' shaded by movable wooden slats, a glass hot house for mango and banana trees and a sweet house for cacti, with grottoes, streams and ponds.
