Founded in 1965 by the anthropologist Jorge Dias, it keeps around half a million objects from rural Portugal, Africa, Asia and the Amazon; the visitable stores, the Galerias da Vida Rural (ploughs, yokes, farm and fishing gear) and the Galerias da Amazónia, are its most unusual part.
