George Kelly's eel and pie shop has been on Roman Road since 1939, the last of the Kelly family shops in the East End and once a Kray twins haunt; a lockdown refurbishment gave it white tiles and marble tables in the old style.

Good to know
- Order pie, mash and liquor, with jellied or stewed eels on the side if you are brave.
- Eat it the cockney way: fork and spoon, never a knife; flip the pie, cut the bottom open and shake in chilli vinegar, then salt and white pepper (James Dimitri, 2025).
- From Thursday to Sunday there is also fresh Billingsgate shellfish to take away: whelks, cockles, mussels and rollmops.
