Horace Walpole's 'little Gothic castle', open to visitors for over 250 years and Britain's finest example of Georgian Gothic Revival: battlements, towers and turrets outside and the theatrical 'gloomth' of its rooms inside. Walpole called it the scene that inspired The Castle of Otranto, so the house bills itself as where Gothic fiction began.
