On 11 September 1776 John Adams, Benjamin Franklin and Edward Rutledge met Admiral Lord Howe in this stone manor house to try to end the Revolutionary War; they failed and the war went on for seven more years. It stands near Ward's Point, the southernmost tip of New York State, looking over Raritan Bay.
