New York City's first municipal airport, where Amelia Earhart and Jackie Cochran set records, Howard Hughes started and ended his 1938 round-the-world flight, and 'Wrong Way' Corrigan took off for Ireland. Today it is a Gateway National Recreation Area site on Jamaica Bay with the original Hangar Row and the city's largest community garden.
