One of the oldest military installations in the country, on the Narrows where the Upper and Lower Bays meet, the natural point to defend Manhattan; until it closed in 1994 it claimed to be the longest continuously garrisoned post in the United States. The overlook gives magnificent views of the harbor, with the old Battery Weed below.
