Brothers Sergio and Massimo Boldrin have made masks by hand since the Carnival revival of the early 1980s; Stanley Kubrick's team bought around 30 of their masks, which ended up in Eyes Wide Shut, and Sergio won the Maestro d'Arte e Mestiere prize in 2018. In a city full of imported plastic masks, this is where you see papier-mache and Commedia dell'Arte faces made and painted on the spot.

Good to know
- The rule for any mask: a real one is light, signed and painted by hand inside and out.
- There is a second, tiny Boldrin shop by the Rialto Bridge; the San Polo one is the workshop.
- Buy directly from the maker; prices reflect hours of work, not a tourist mark-up.
