Venice's cathedral until 1807, on the island of San Pietro at the far east end of Castello, near the Arsenale basins. Palladio signed his first Venetian contract here in 1558, and Mauro Codussi rebuilt the free-standing bell tower in bare Istrian stone in 1482.
