A rowed crossing at the mouth of the Grand Canal, from the Salute side to the San Marco Vallaresso pier by Piazza San Marco. It is the widest of the traghetto crossings and has the best view of all: the Salute behind you, the Doge's Palace and San Giorgio ahead. Good to know
- Fare EUR 2 for visitors, EUR 0.70 for residents with a Venezia Unica card; have coins ready and pay the gondolier.
- Venetians ride standing up; step in, face backwards (the boat turns as it leaves) and hold on if you stand.
- No service on 15 August, 25-26 December and 1 January; it also stops in bad weather or very high water.
- The water is choppier here than further up the canal; sit if you are not sure of your balance.
