A tiny grill opened in Khalidiya in 1975 by a Syrian chef and his wife; neighbours in the houses behind it used to call out 'Abu Kabi has started cooking!' from their windows. His son now runs it, and most customers are the second or third generation of the first ones (Gulf News).
