A 1923-1925 garden village of about 2,000 workers' homes where the city experimented with eight concrete building techniques, built around a square, De Brink, with a reading room but deliberately no church and no pub. Johan Cruijff grew up on the Akkerstraat and writer Gerard Reve on the Ploegstraat; football fans and architecture lovers know it, other visitors never come.
