The birthplace of Chinese film: China's first movie, the Peking opera short Dingjun Mountain, premiered here in 1905, and it later became the first Chinese-run cinema in Beijing and the first in China to show sound films. It is still a working cinema, so you can watch a film in the building where Chinese cinema began, while Dashilar shoppers walk past the facade.
