Youth Lake was dug by teenage volunteers in 1958; its open-air pool with slides is a summer hot spot for families and young Beijingers, and in winter the pool becomes a big ice rink with skates, sleds and ice bikes for hire. It is a neighbourhood park north of the Second Ring Road that visitors never hear about.
