Born of the 1897 International Exposition in Tervuren and intended as a colonial museum, it reopened in 2018 after a 2013-2018 renovation as the AfricaMuseum, now presenting the Congo, Belgium's former colony, and Central Africa through ethnography, natural history and a critical look at the colonial past.

Good to know
- Usually tram 44 from Montgomery to its Tervuren terminus, opposite the museum; from 3 October 2026 to 26 March 2027 the tram is suspended between Montgomery and the Tram Museum and a replacement T-bus runs.
- Free with the Brussels Card and the Museum Pass; go on the first Wednesday afternoon of the month for free entry.
