One of the best-preserved remains of Brussels' first city wall of the early 13th century, standing where the wall turned a sharp inward corner. It is named after Francois Anneessens, dean of the stonemasons' guild, said to have been held here before his beheading on the Grand-Place in 1719.

Good to know
- Note the semicircular sandstone tower with a top floor rebuilt in brick
- It was exposed and damaged by the North-South rail junction works in 1957 and restored in 1967; the Black Tower is the other big survivor of the same wall
