Dubliners have swum off this rock at the tip of Dublin Bay all year round for about 250 years: concrete wind shelters, steps straight into deep water and a crowd of regulars at dawn. Visitors know it from Ulysses but rarely bring their togs.

Good to know
- Not lifeguarded; the water is about 6 m deep at high tide, so it suits confident swimmers. Use the steps or jump from the rocks left of the stairs
- After heavy rain the council posts no-swim notices (June 2026 for example); check dlrcoco.ie bathing water results or beaches.ie before you go
- DART to Sandycove & Glasthule, then 1 km on foot; on Christmas morning the whole neighbourhood swims in Santa hats
