A walk on the granite sea wall that runs about 4 km into Dublin Bay to the red Poolbeg Lighthouse, with ferries passing close by, seals, and the city's two striped Poolbeg chimneys behind you. Halfway out, Half Moon Swimming Club's shelter is used by year-round swimmers; most visitors never get past the city centre.

Good to know
- The short route starts at the wall itself (3.4 km, about 40 minutes there and back); the long one starts on Sandymount Strand (10.2 km, about two hours)
- The old stones are uneven in places: wear proper shoes
- Look for the James Joyce mural just before the lighthouse
