Rebuilt in 1894-95 by architect A.J. McLoughlin to outshine every other pub, it was the first in Dublin lit by electricity: mahogany, mirrors, stag stained glass and the huge stag's head over the bar. Hidden down a passage off Dame Street, it is a standard Dublin meeting point.
