Where the Vikings first settled in 841. Excavations in the 1970s for the City Council's Civic Offices uncovered Norse and Norman houses, coins, pottery, leather and swords, now in the National Museum and Dublinia. Outside, Michael Warren's wooden Viking-prow sculpture, Rachel Joynt's bronze artefact plaques in the pavement and a Viking house outline mark the site; inside is a stretch of city wall from about 1100.
