Traditionally identified with the Monastery of Christ Pantepoptes, it is the only documented 11th-century church in Istanbul that survives intact, yet among the least studied buildings in the city. It is the oldest building in the city showing the recessed-brick technique.

Good to know
- As of 2024 it was still under restoration (works began in 2015), so expect to see it mainly from outside.
- It is less than 1 km northwest of the Zeyrek Mosque; combine the two on a Zeyrek walk.
- Note the scalloped dome roofline, restored in 1970.
