Horace Jones's painted iron-and-glass arcade of 1881 stands over the centre of Roman Londinium; under the cobbles lie the remains of the Forum and Basilica. A market has stood here since at least 1321. Today it holds shops, restaurants, cafes, wine bars and an award-winning pub used by the City's office workers.
