Nicholas Hawksmoor's church at Bank junction (1716-1727), one of the Queen Anne churches. John Newton, the evangelical, anti-slavery campaigner and hymn writer, was its incumbent from 1780 to 1807; a memorial plaque to him and his wife is inside.
