The Roses of Elagabalus

Cocktail bar

A secretive 'queer clubhouse' next to Dalston Junction, named after Alma-Tadema's 1888 painting: a labyrinth of plush rooms designed by Domhnall Nolan, including an Erotic Library of books wrapped in murals by Ettore Larsen. Time Out calls it the fanciest LGBTQ+ venue in the city.

Good to know

  • Drink the booze-forward modern classics: boulevardiers, Trinidad sours, a very dirty martini.
  • Weeknights have drag cabaret shows with rotating chef pop-ups.
  • Closed Monday; there is a private cocktail room downstairs, Subrosa, that most guests never find (Livingetc).
