Southern California's first arboretum, planted from 1893 by the Los Angeles Horticultural Society in Elysian Park just north of Dodger Stadium, with more than 130 tree varieties, including what may be the oldest and largest Cape chestnut, kauri and tipu trees in the US. Families picnic and barbecue under the trees; baseball crowds park nearby without noticing it.
