Mattachine Steps

MonumentLocal favourite

A 161-step concrete stairway on Cove Avenue, dedicated in 2012 to the Mattachine Society, one of the first US gay rights groups, which Harry Hay founded on this hillside on 11 November 1950. Turn round at the top for the Silver Lake Reservoir; Time Out calls it the stairway it wishes got more attention than the painted Micheltorena steps.
