The oldest stretch of Madrid: the 9th-century wall of the emir Muhammad I (850-866), built of flint and limestone round the fortress of Mayrit, reinforced by Abd al-Rahman III. Its best-preserved section lies in the Parque del Emir Mohamed I, next to the Almudena crypt.
