Born in 1969 out of demands by Puerto Rican and African-American parents, educators and activists in East Harlem, the oldest museum in the country devoted to Latino art. The 6,500-piece collection runs from pre-Columbian Taíno objects and Puerto Rican santos de palo and vejigante masks to contemporary installations.
