New York's oldest major bridge, opened in 1848 to carry the Croton Aqueduct's water into Manhattan 140 feet above the Harlem River, closed for more than 40 years and reopened to walkers and cyclists in 2015. On the Manhattan side the Highbridge Water Tower has watched over the Harlem River valley since 1872.
