Manhattan's only remaining lighthouse, a 40-foot cast-iron tower moved to Jeffrey's Hook in 1921 and made obsolete when the George Washington Bridge lit up above it in 1931. Children who loved the 1942 book 'The Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Gray Bridge' saved it from the scrapyard.
