Get from A to B

Ruter runs one integrated network of metro (T-bane), trams, buses, local trains and harbour/island ferries across Oslo and Akershus. All of Oslo is zone 1, which covers the island ferries, Holmenkollen, Frognerseteren, Sognsvann and Bygdøy by bus; the airport needs a 4-zone ticket. The five metro lines share one central tunnel (Majorstuen - Nationaltheatret - Stortinget - Jernbanetorget - Tøyen), so any line gets you across the centre. The museum ferry to Bygdøy is a private boat and is NOT covered by Ruter tickets (it is covered by the Oslo Pass).

  Line 1 climbs to Holmenkollen and Frognerseteren (about 23 min from Nationaltheatret to Holmenkollen); other lines run to Sognsvann, Vestli, Ellingsrudåsen and more. Frequent: every few minutes at peak.

  Tram 12 runs to Frogner plass (Vigeland) and Aker brygge; trams also serve Grünerløkka, Ekeberg and Majorstuen. Check the Ruter app, as works often reroute lines.

Good to know

• Activate your Ruter ticket before boarding; inspectors fine NOK 1,250 on the spot, tourists included.
• At the airport, Vy and Flytoget use the same station: Vy is about half the price and only a few minutes slower.
• The Oslo Pass covers the Vy airport train but not Flytoget.
• Island ferries are ordinary Ruter boats; the Bygdøy museum boat is not.
• A 24-hour ticket (NOK 137) pays off from the third ride of the day.
