Founded in 1939 and run by the third generation of the Gomes family, this bar faces Guanabara Bay with Sugarloaf and Corcovado in view. Downstairs is the counter, upstairs a small restaurant of Portuguese and Brazilian dishes; on weekends cariocas take their snacks to the mureta (sea wall) across the street.

Good to know
- Buy pastéis or a shrimp empada and a chope at the counter and eat sitting on the mureta at sunset, as locals do.
- For a meal go upstairs: fried sardines are the old house fame, camarão na moranga feeds two or three.
