A Sunday street market held for more than a century on Avenida Augusto Severo: produce and fish in the morning, food from all over Brazil at lunch, then samba at Praça do Samba in the afternoon. It was declared state intangible heritage in 2025.

- Shop early, eat at the stalls, then stay for the rodas: samba groups rotate from 14:00 until about 22:00 at Praça do Samba Edson Cortes (Time Out).
- Queue early for the seafood feijoada at Barraca da Naná (Veja Rio, 2025).
- Since July 2025 many food stalls work inside neighbouring Praça Paris (Veja Rio).
