One of Shanghai's finest garden mansions, built by industrialist Liu Jisheng as a 40th-birthday gift for his wife and named after the marble goddess in its garden; since 1949 it has been the Shanghai Writers' Association. The Author Bookstore next door is called 'the bookstore where you are most likely to meet a writer'.
