Monnaka grew from the 17th century as the temple town of Tomioka Hachimangu and still has the down-to-earth Fukagawa feel of a merchant shitamachi. Locals eat Fukagawa-meshi, clams over rice, and the Fukagawa Hachiman festival at Tomioka Hachimangu is the district's big event.
