One of Japan's first public parks, laid out in 1873 on the grounds of Kan'ei-ji, the Tokugawa family temple destroyed in the 1868 Boshin War. It holds the National Museum, the Western Art museum, the science museum, the zoo, Toshogu shrine and Shinobazu Pond, and its cherry avenue is Tokyo's classic hanami crowd.
