Built in 1897 for the 50th year of Emperor Franz Joseph's reign, it is the oldest Ferris wheel of its type still running anywhere; its wooden cabins climb to almost 65 m over the Prater for a slow 12-15 minute turn, the ride Orson Welles took in The Third Man. It stands at the entrance to the Wurstelprater fairground and the green Prater park.
