ViewpointLocals' pick

The hill above Ottakring, officially the Gallitzinberg, named after Wilhelmine Montléart, who owned the palace and its grounds from 1866. City Hiking Trail 4a climbs from the U3 terminus past Ottakring cemetery and the Kuffner Observatory to the palace (1908, now a hotel) with a terrace view over the city, and on to the 31 m Jubiläumswarte tower.

Good to know

  • Start at U3 Ottakring and follow the 4a signs; it is a Vienna side most visitors never see.
  • The meadow next to the palace is a good picnic spot with a city view.
  • Climb the spiral stairs of the Jubiläumswarte on the summit for a second panorama.
