A double merchant's house of 1605 bought in 1651 by Isaac de Pinto of the Portuguese-Jewish elite, later a neighbourhood library; in the turbulent 1970s it played a key role in the debate about the future of the inner city. Now a volunteer-run literary and cultural centre with a reading room.
