Het Scheepvaarthuis

Monument

Built in 1913-1916 for six shipping companies and generally seen as the first true Amsterdam School building, by Van der Mey with Michel de Klerk and Piet Kramer. Sea gods, ships and the trading routes of the colonial era are carved into every surface. It stands where Cornelis de Houtman's first voyage to the East Indies left in 1595.
