Founded in 1785 as the Botica y Librería del Colegio opposite the Colegio Nacional, it claims to be the oldest bookshop in the country; Belgrano, Moreno and Castelli met here, later Sarmiento, Borges and Bioy Casares. Bookseller Miguel Ávila saved the abandoned corner from becoming a burger outlet; today it specialises in Argentine and Latin American history and rare books.
