The UAE's most populous city grew up around Dubai Creek, where the old trading quarters of Bur Dubai and Deira face each other and abra boats still cross for AED 1. Inland and down the coast come Downtown and the Burj Khalifa, the low villa streets of Jumeirah and the towers of Dubai Marina. Residents eat in the cafeterias of Karama, Satwa and Deira and head to Al Quoz for galleries and coffee.
