The 321 m sail-shaped hotel, opened in 1999 on its own artificial island 280 m off Jumeirah Beach, was Dubai's first global icon. Since April 2026 it has been closed, restaurants included, for a restoration of around 18 months, so for now it is a landmark to admire from the shore.

Good to know
- The best free view is from Umm Suqeim (Sunset) Beach right next to it.
- Kite Beach, further north along the coast, also looks straight at it.
- Before the restoration, non-guests could only enter with a restaurant booking or a paid guided tour; expect the same when it reopens.
