At the top of Al Wasl Road, a Shia mosque built in 1979 by the local Iranian community and wrapped inside and out in handmade blue Kashani tile mosaic, flowers, geometry and Quranic verses, with two muqarnas minarets. Its architect, Seyed Reza Mohit, told The National he wanted 'the spirit of Iran here in Dubai'. Most residents know it from the car window; few stop to look closely.
