Built around 1430 by Romaniote Jews from Ohrid, it is one of the oldest synagogues in the city and one of two ancient synagogues on the Golden Horn. It is known for its boat-shaped tevah (reading platform), and is the only Istanbul synagogue where Sabbatai Zevi prayed.
